I was inspired to produce this website as a refreshingly down-to-earth guide for people wishing to take up the hobby of radio controlled model flying.

At the time of writing, I have been involved with model flying for about 2 years, but previously have a background of competitive radio controlled car racing.  A break of several years has given me a fresh perspective and a clearer outlook on this hobby, whereas some more fanatical participants seem to lose sight of why they first became involved.

Keen enthusiasts will tell you that you need this, that, and the other bit of equipment in order to fly.  In reality you need very little, and I have always struggled to see how increasingly large and complex models add to the fun of flying.

In my opinion, there's a desirable alternative to painstakingly gluing together balsa wood spares, delicately covering them in tissue, and elaborately decorating the end result.  A foam wing, fixed to a ready built fuselage with a couple of cheap servos in it will get you airborne in a fraction of the time and provide just as much enjoyment.
